I bought this for the kids, who love making smoothies. I was really impressed with the power, and it does a wonderful job. And, with the pouring spout, each child can serve him or herself with no mess at all. I love it. It does a great job with ice, and I like it that it turns on when it is serving, so no large chunks of anything get through, or are left in the bowl. I like the safety light, which tells me when it is put together right, The lid is part of that system, so a child can't take the lid off and start it. At the end of a smoothie session, the kitchen is much cleaner than it is with any other system I have used.
I have started using it for adult drinks as well, because it is so easy. I didn't find the spigot difficult to clean or assemble at all. This blender works fine for making smoothies, if you run it long enough. However the bowl is very difficult to take apart - there's no place to get a good grip to unscrew it. The labels on the buttons ("on" "off") have worn off after a year. And sometimes on the "ice crush" mode, it simply unscrews the bowl instead of sucking down the ice! Also, the cover has all these little places where food can get stuck and it's very hard to clean. You'd think after making blenders for decades, they'd have figured all these things out!

I see alot of bad reviews and am puzzled by them. I am a bartender and have used most of the commercial product used in bars so I know how to mix them just right after 13 years doing. I think most of the bad reviews come from the fact that the directions are not very helpful with recopies. The drinks I mix come out very creamy and smooth, just about as good as an Oasis machine. The problem people are having with the margaritas is that after you put in the sour mix and alcohol it will dilute the ice significantly. I start with ice to the fill line, about 24 ounces of margarita mix and 1/12 half cups teq. Blend for about 5 min and add about two more cups of ice then blend it for 5 more min. They sold come out thick and smooth with hardly any ice crystal, The extra ice keeps the mix cold thick. The other day, I was blending for a pie and trying to make sure the lid was on snug, so I wouldn't throw pumpkin all over the walls. My thumb touched the plastic cap in the center and it fell in, ground up and got little minced plastic cap all in my pie mix.

So, Beware. The Oster blenders either have a rubber square lid or a rubber cloverleaf lid, but all of them have that same plastic cap in the center. The rubber lid bends and the cap has all the room in the world to drop through.
