I didn't buy this blender through Amazon, but through a retail store. It works fine for me. I don't use ice in my smoothies so I can't address that problem. But making smoothies either in the travel cup or the main blender poses no problems with chunks left over. I use milk, protein powder and frozen fruit, usually berries, strawberries, and/or bananas.
