The Proctor Silex 57171 7-Speed Blender was a let down on the performance.
It seems like it has more cons than pros.

The operational sound is real big.All my neighbors get to know that Im blending/grinding when I use the blender.

The blades are not designed for fine grinding.It takes a lot of effort to get a finely made juice.

Im not a convinced customer.

After wearing out a couple of your typical dept store blenders, I wanted one that would last with daily use. My wife and I started a diet (body for life) which involved making multiple protein shakes every day. I stayed on the diet for a number of years and we still have this blender and it still works just as well as when we bought it. The only negative on the earlier model was a smaller stainless steal container, which although is indestructable also got very cold which was annoying and also was too small. In fact, that's why I'm shopping is to find a larger replacement container (such as the 44 oz) for it.

Plastic parts tend to break and are expensive to replace.

Also, cleaning and assembling is time consuming.

I've had this blender for a long time now - I'd estimate probably 6 years. In all that time it's done me well for the most part. However there are some cons. Here goes:

Pros:
- Ice pulse function that works well 70% of the time.
- Mixes ingredients pretty well

Cons
- Sometimes I get several fairly large piece of ice that haven't been crushed, and no matter how long I pulse the thing it won't crush it all.
- Sometimes powders get stuck to the sides and aren't mixed in, but that's more rare.

I should note that I have used this only to make smoothies, and that I put in canned fruit and ice and powders/sugars. I generally make 1-2 smoothies a week, but sometimes will go for a week or two without making any.

Aside on a personal note, (in other words, my bad - no fault of Hamilton Beach's) I also recently put it in the dishwasher even though it isn't meant for it, and that was when it started to warp. To top that off, the lid to it was stolen from our storage unit during a move, (it was in a box that was taken), so I usually just put a tupperware lid on top while it blends. I'm about to order my second one of these. first one just died after about 4-5 years of use. My use is for mixing protein shakes, not frothing milk and this one does a good job of mixing up the protein quickly.

I recently purchased the Aerolatte stainless version from Amazon for 22.00 or so and it does a great job of frothing milk for coffeee, much better than this one. I think they have a lower speed or something because the Aerolatte really froths milk well.

The aerolatte though bogs down on mixing protein and i have to go slow where as the Arcosteel I just shove in there and let it do it's thing.

Another review thought the button was too sensitive. After years of use, i noticed the same thing, however, it is easily adjustable (bend the tabs back a bit that touch the battery). what i like about this one also is that the button is on the top, so it's easy to keep in the cup and press the button on the top to get it going, some of the others have button on the side and that is sometimes inconvenient. Avoid this blender. You can do better with a low-priced model from your local discount store. Sometimes it won't turn on, sometimes you turn the switch to 'off,' and it won't turn off. Parts of the bowl's handle/spring apparatus also tend to come loose, and you can't use it until everything's properly aligned again.
