I got this blender as a wedding gift and thought it was great. The first time I used it, the motor died. So, I called the company and they replaced it. I had the 2nd one for about 6 months (used it rarely) and the motor died.

This Product looks good but not good for making dosa or idli because i got 2 of them in 18 months both r gone smoking while grinding rice for dosa.1st one came around 8 months then again i bought the same one because i can use the jars and travel cup but this one also came around 10 months. This one is good for who don't cook indian food. I gave 3stars because this one not made for help indian cooking (indian dosa or idle or snacks). This works good crushing ice blending things.
compare to this one i used 12 speed it came around more than 4 yrs grinding batter and all other things.
18 speed one has a glass jar it is heavy to handle, 12 speed one has Styrene jar light weight and easy to handle.

I bought it because of it's nice design and high tech features. I also liked the metal housing, so I bought it. First issue was a leaking jar, received a new one from oster and it leaked too. Bought the glass jar, it worked good until all the plastic tabs on the bottom broke off and the unit thought that the jar was not on top of the blender. Then after a year the cog broke while making ice cream shakes. I have thrown it in the trash and will buy a cheap blender next time. We bought this item as a way of saving a few dollars over the well established Vita Mix blender, and boy were we sorry, and quickly returned it. After having seen the demo of the Blend Tec we thought that it seemed to be on the same level, but after getting the unit home and trying it on several different concoctions, we found that it truly was unworthy of the money we paid for it, and returned it within about 10 days of it's purchase.
The lid was awkward, difficult to seat in the top. It was overly noisey. You don't need a vortec engine to power a blender, although this has one. If you don't watch it constantly while using it it will work it's way right off your counter. Upon start up, it goes from zero to bazillion in .000009 seconds, so you better have a handle on it from the get-go. And clean up is not as easy as they make it sound. It seemed to smell of an overly worked electrical component also, when trying to grind up ice or carrots, but maybe that was because it was still new and working off it's "new car smell". It was too much disappointment for us and for a blender, we didn't want to get stuck with a $400.00 piece of kitchen real estate that would eventually end up in the thrift store.

This blender works fine for making smoothies, if you run it long enough. However the bowl is very difficult to take apart - there's no place to get a good grip to unscrew it. The labels on the buttons ("on" "off") have worn off after a year. And sometimes on the "ice crush" mode, it simply unscrews the bowl instead of sucking down the ice! Also, the cover has all these little places where food can get stuck and it's very hard to clean. You'd think after making blenders for decades, they'd have figured all these things out!

What is more annoying than having your milkshake leak all over the counter. I registered and received this blender as a wedding gift. I thought I was getting a steal since it also came with another food processing unit that you could swap out on top for the blender so I was very excited. I am by no means a heavy blender user. I would say that perhaps I have used it on average two times a month for the past 3 years. About 2 months ago, I go to put on the food processor top and it makes this horrible high pitched squealing sound. I think I may have lost some hearing from how horrible it was. Two people within my household came running out of their respective rooms to see what the "horrible noise" was. We've used this combined blender/food processor consistently for smoothies, making spreads and dips for about 7 years with no problem.
