I love the efficiency and smarts of this compact little blender at a terrific price. Since I have a food processor, all I needed was something to quick mix my liquid breakfasts. It chops ice well and just overall works like a charm. The travel lid makes it great on the go, too. The only slip up on the manufacturer's part is not making it dishwasher-friendly, but I just blend a little dish soap and warm water for a few seconds, rinse and let it air dry. What is more annoying than having your milkshake leak all over the counter. This is exactly what's happening -- the "watertight" seal went bad after several months of *minimal* use (occasional milkshakes only; no ice crushing). The motor is showing signs of impending death -- it produces a burning smell and takes increasingly longer to spin up. Why did I trade my 5-year-old perfectly working blender for this garbage?

I used this blender for the first time and it worked just fine. I went to use it the second time and it plainly wouldn't blend anything. Wouldn't crush ice, wouldn't pull the ingredients down for mixing as advertised - nothing. The blades spun like crazy, the blender made a whole lot of noise, yet nothing was happening. I tried taking it apart and putting it back together, thinking I had done something wrong after washing the parts, but that didn't change anything. Finally I had to blend 1-2 ingredients separately, several times each, then mix them all together and blend again before I was able to have a smoothie. 15 minutes of work for something that should take only seconds? This blender is absolute garbage.

I am not disappointed with the blender; it is everything that is advertised including the noise level. Some of the reasons that I purchased this one are, it has a glass container (I am getting away from plastic food containers), it has an all metal drive and minimal plastic, is less likely to break, and has only two speeds (less gadgetry).

It performs well on fruit smoothies (I throw in frozen fruit), veggie smoothies, and hummus, it is simple to use and cleans up easily.

I registered and received this blender as a wedding gift. I thought I was getting a steal since it also came with another food processing unit that you could swap out on top for the blender so I was very excited. I am by no means a heavy blender user. I would say that perhaps I have used it on average two times a month for the past 3 years. About 2 months ago, I go to put on the food processor top and it makes this horrible high pitched squealing sound. I think I may have lost some hearing from how horrible it was. Two people within my household came running out of their respective rooms to see what the "horrible noise" was. I picked up the base, and sure enough like many others on here - the drive had stripped the gripping teeth practically flat. The next day I tried the blender top, which worked fine until I went to pour it and it started leaking out from in between the white plastic ring to where it connects to the glass.

I bought this mainly for the ability to make single serve smoothies and milkshakes and because it offers replacement blades should one crack. It is nice to have two seperate blades so you don't have to wash one to make another. It does not blend frozen fruit as well as my Back to Basics did and leaves chunks. It is also louder. Should have returned this when we noticed a burnt plastic smell on first use, but figured it would go away, and frankly, I was just too lazy to take it back to the store.

We hardly used the blender for a couple years, but recently got on a smoothie kick and what do you know, within a month of daily use two of the plastic parts (the bottom of the blade assembly) fused together and locked up the blade altogether. Ahhh, that's why it smelled wretched -- the parts that power the blade are plastic!

The motor itself works well, perhaps too well for the cheap plastic pieces that it powers. So, I could be eco-friendly and just replace that fused part, but why bother when another of the many spinning plastic pieces will surely fail soon anyway?

Please pay attention to the negative reviews here and understand that any positive ones are going to break before long -- it's inevitable with plastic moving parts. I have owned two Smoothie Elites. Unfortunately believing the first one was a "lemon", regrettably, I purchased a second. This blender is a piece of junk. The teaser to draw potential customers is the spigot. Don't be fooled. The most important aspect of any blender, whether it is for food processing, smoothies or drinks, is how well it blends. This blender is unable to reduce ice particles to a size below that of medium find sand. A frozen margarita the consistency of desert gravel leaves something to be desired. The spigot function is useless unless the blend is more liquidy than smoothie. Keep the liquids handy as you will assuredly be reblending to get a consistency that can actually flow through the spigot. Unfortunately, liquidity that allows fluids to flow through the spigot easily is liquidity that will also leak out of the spigot, so always put another glass or towel under the spigot to catch the incessant drips. Lastly, be wary of the bottom gasket. It does need to be disassembled for cleaning (or it will grow mold). However, it is an imperfect seal. The more times you unscrew the bottom for cleaning the greater the risk of leaks. Back-to-Basics is to be commended for trying to create a blender that pours through a spigot. Unfortunately, they gave no consideration to the quality of the blending or the leakage problems. Bad gift to yourself. Bad gift to someone else.
