As a fan of Consumer Reports, I had seen the Vitamix as their top rated blender, but could not swallow the high price tag. With that in mind, i bought the highest rated blender that was under $100. After having two different blenders die in the last 18 months, I decided to try the Vitamix with its 7 year warranty. I bought the machine based on expectations of improved durability; but I am amazed at the difference in performance. The ability to blend drinks made with large amounts of ice cubes to such a smooth consistancy is incredible. Very easy to clean and not too noisy. Nice to know that it is made in the USA too.
